Brescia/Munich. The BMW Group had three reasons to celebrate at the Mille
Miglia 2005. The Boni/Barziza team won the Ladies' Trophy for the tenth time,
with 8,427 points. The Isetta and the BMW 507 also celebrated their 50th
birthdays at the world's most important vintage vehicle event.
As last year, and for the tenth time , the Ladies' Trophy went to Franca Boni
and Monica Barziza, this time driving a BMW 328 Berlin-Rom. The team came 17th
in the overall placings. This outstanding achievement also made them the best
BMW team at the Mille Miglia 2005. Overall victory went to the Viaro/De Marco
team.
Of the total of 22 BMW teams, three Isettas also started for the first time.
The BMW privateer team Mercandanti/Mercandanti-Bastoni have conquered the
hearts of the spectactors for some years now with their "bubble car". To mark
the Isetta's 50th birthday, BMW Group Mobile Tradition also sent two factory
Isettas to the race. The fact that this 12 HP vehicle in no way needs to hide
behind its larger-volume competitors is reflected in the placings: 65th
(Mercandanti/
Mercandanti-Bastoni) and 106th place (Ferrari/Ferrari). The team made up of
Jörg Reichle and Holger Lapp also aroused considerable enthusiasm: although
their BMW Isetta 250 suffered engine damage, they still managed to cross the
finishing line successfully.
