Piquet against Piquet: Father and son finally meet alone with two BMW 1 Series
on a race track and challenge their limits against each other.

Brasilia, June 20th 2005. An unusual episode called the attention of the
citizens of Brasilia this past Monday afternoon. In a press event organized by
BMW Brazil, Ex Formula 1 champion Nelson Piquet and his son Nelsinho Angelo
Piquet, who's currently competing in the GP2 Series, were gathered for the
first time to race against each other in exact equal conditions.

Two BMW 1 Series (not prepared for competition) were waiting for them in the
"Nelson Piquet international race track" at 14:00 hrs with their names on it.
The challenge consisted on two separate races of three laps around the track
named in honor of the three time world champion. The rumor that father and son
would compete against each other had began to spread since last week, when
Nelson Piquet Junior arrived to his home town on a short vacation, before his
next race to be held in the European track of Magny Cours. Just after midday
the first fans began to show up in the track to confirm what they had been
hearing the past week and remained close to the two BMW 1 Series that were
ready to enter the track.

Both cars surrounded by journalists and photographers were enough for the fans
to realize that the "Father Vs. Son" challenge was confirmed for that
afternoon. Exactly as it had been previously scheduled with BMW Brazil, both
drivers appeared on time to the seen and ready for the race.

A quick warm up lap was enough for the drivers to get familiarized with the
each 1 Series and the first race began at full speed. The journalists and
photographers had the chance to witness a series of surpassing as from the
first lap. The Piquet's enjoyed every second of the first race and they
awakened the emotions of viewers as from the start. Nelsinho completed the
third lap ahead, but with his father very close to his tail. The viewers
commented on the experience of each generation of drivers and on the high level
of excitement that they both awakened, having surpassed each other on five
different opportunities in just three laps.

Just before the start of the second race, Nelson Piquet made excellent comments
on the performance of his 1 Series: "I must admit I was never crazy about small
cars, since most of them are front wheel drive, but I am completely impressed
with 1 Series. Being a rear-wheel drive, it's powerful, dynamic and definetely
very fun to drive in a race track."

The drivers joked for a few minutes and returned for the second three lap race.
Six year old Pedro Piquet, Nelson Senior's younger son, was given the checkered
flag to salute the winner after the last lap. It was going to be either his
promising elder brother or his world champion father.

Nelson Senior started ahead, and although his son attempted to surpass him on
the first curve, he remained in his position the entire lap, Nelsinho took the
lead on the second lap for a few a seconds, but was again surpassed by his
father. "Now I'm warmed up" Nelson said as he began leaving his son behind.
"Let's see if he can keep up". Just as in the old days, Nelson Piquet received
a checkered flag after a completing a successful final lap with a BMW engine.
In the past it was with a BMW Brabham that he earned one of his championships
with the world as his witness. This Monday, it was on his own race track and
with a 1 Series that he earned a victory in front of his fans and family, with
the press as his witness. As parent and as a racer, he is still a champion.

After the race ended, both father and son had a laugh. They enjoyed the day and
gave their people a nice show for a Monday afternoon. Nelsinho, who earned the
first victory of the day, ended the event with a final statement to the press.
"I never raced alone against my father. This is the first time we did so. It
was really fun to race in equal circumstances with both BMW 1 Series. He has
proven us all that he's still in great shape."
