Munich/Loreley. The Loreley is a very special venue indeed. It was here that
the Rolling Stones rocked away on the open air stage located high above the
Rhine river, and the cult band U2 was witnessed here by thousands of ardent
fans. Now a new chapter in the long history of the legendary rock, which lies
to the north of Bingen, is about to be written. On 20th and 21st August 2005
the event "Let's MINI", the official annual meeting attended by a huge number
of MINI enthusiasts, will take place.
Visitors will witness an extensive programme focussing on the MINI brand.
Workshops will offer a glance behind the scenes of the club sport series MINI
CHALLENGE represented by the MINI Cooper S powered by a 210 bhp engine.
Moreover, additional workshops will provide an interesting insight into the
John Cooper Works tuning programme or the history of MINI. And the
collaborating Dunlop tyre company will demonstrate how a MINI is able to stay
securely in its tracks even on flat tyres, thanks to so-called runflat
technology.
"Touchable" legends.
The presence of two persons closely associated with the MINI brand will be a
particular highlight of the event. One of them is Rauno Aaltonen, who drove an
original Mini to victory at the Monte Carlo Rally almost 40 years ago and now
works as a MINI driver training course instructor. The other is Mike Cooper,
whose father tuned the old Mini during the sixties and gave his name to the
Mini Cooper models. Mike Cooper has continued his father's tradition and now
manufactures John Cooper Works tuning kits for the new MINI.
Unique MINIs for a unique occasion.
A display of current MINI brand models, which can all be test-driven, will be
complemented by famous unique editions. These will include the unique MINI made
by Missoni, the Bisazza MINI designed by Carlo dal Bianco and Marco Braga, the
MINI sporting patrol car colours and used by the Munich police, the MINI XXL
stretch limousine and the "Follow Me" MINI previously in use at various
airports as an apron vehicle. A wide range of classic MINIs in original
condition will also be on display.
MINI driver training and, in the evening, the MINI INVASION.
On "Let's MINI" Saturday, MINI driver training taster courses (cover charge 25
Euros) will be offered at nearby Lorch (shuttle bus transfer). There, under the
guidance of specially trained instructors, visitors will be able to test how a
MINI behaves when driven to its limits and improve their ability to control the
vehicle in critical situations.
The focal point of "Let's MINI" is the large open air stage at the Loreley.
MINI COLLECTION stunt fashion shows will be held there all day long.
Immediately next to the stage there will be a display of original MINI
accessories and cool music will provide the appropriate background to each
activity. On the Rhine terraces visitors will be able to relax at the beach
club, which also features a chill-out area and is open until late night, and
enjoy magnificent views of the sweeping Rhine river valley.
In the evening, top bands and DJs will offer club visitors first-rate
entertainment during the first MINI INVASION. DJ Thomilla from the Turntable
Rockers and DJ Friction have been committed and will appear as the "Body Movin"
DJ team.
MINI competitions and a grand parade to close the event.
On Sunday morning various competitions will be held to select the best of
"Let's MINI" classic and latest cars. Examples of the categories invited
include "Best Paintwork", "Most Original Conversion" and "Best Tuning". At
around 2 p.m. a grand parade of MINIs will mark the official end of the first
"Let's MINI" event.
The registration fee for "Let's MINI" (20th/21st August 2005) is 19 Euros. This
fee includes, inter alia, a welcoming package, participation in the lottery,
child care at "Kids' Corner" as well as the use of the Loreley camping site if
desired.
