M5
In 1985, BMW introduced to the world a high-performance sedan that redefined
the segment and has continued to reign as the benchmark for luxury, comfort and
race-car performance, in the guise of an everyday business vehicle: the iconic
M5. Following in the footsteps of the current class-leading M5 is no small
feat, however, BMW M engineers have once again wielded their magic power with
the introduction of the fourth-generation M5 which raises the performance sedan
bar to new heights.
A first not only for M5 but also for any production sedan in the world, the new
M5 will be powered by a high-revving V10 engine developed and perfected over
the years through BMWs extensive experience and success in Formula 1 racing.
Setting not only a new standard for available power, producing 500 horsepower,
the M5 V10 engine's lightweight construction provides an unprecedented
advantage in weight reduction and distribution, and garnered first prize as
"Engine of the Year" at the prestigious 2005 Engine Expo in Stuttgart in June.
Also new to M5 and another first in automotive history is the introduction of a
7-Speed Sequential Gearbox with Drivelogic technology with 11 individual shift
programs, again developed through BMW's extensive F1 experience.
As in previous iterations of the M5, the athletic and competent 5 Series
platform, with all aluminum suspension, Electronic Damper Control and
adjustable DSC, has received race-bred modifications that make the new M5 the
most competent performance sedan on the planet in a muscular package that can
only be identified as an M5.
Delivering unparalleled performance in the segment, the Base MSRP of the 2006
M5 will be $115,500, inclusive of Aluminum 19" M Radial Spoke wheels and a
choice of four exclusive M exterior colors.
Well-equipped with standard features, the M5 can be specified with the optional
Executive Package which includes:
* Comfort access
* Manual Side Sunshades
* Electric Rear Sunshade
* M Multi-Function Seat
* Active Seat Bolsters
* Heated Rear Seats
* Park Distance Control
and can be further upgraded with Full Merino Leather, Ventilated Seats and
Head-up Display from the stand-alone option list.
Additionally, the BMW Individual Collection, available on a select range of BMW
models, is also available for the M5, offering a range of several unique and
exquisite Paint, Upholstery and Interior Trim choices that can further enhance
the exclusivity of the M5.
