Munich. As announced, Maximilian Schöberl (43) will be taking over as Head of
Corporate Affairs for the BMW Group as of 1 September 2006. He will thus be
responsible worldwide for all of the company's communication and policy
activities and will report to the new Chairman of the Board of Management, Dr.
Norbert Reithofer.
Schöberl is the successor to Richard Gaul, who, after reaching the internal age
limit of 60, which applies for the company's senior managers, will be retiring
at the end of the year. Gaul will work on tasks in the area of Corporate
Affairs until then.
Most recently, Schöberl - who has been familiarising himself with his new area
of work at the BMW Group since the beginning of April - was head of Corporate
Communications and Policy at Vodafone Germany. Previously, he was part of the
management of the Kirch Group, after being in charge of the press and publicity
work for the German party CSU for six years.
Richard Gaul has been with the BMW Group since 1985 and has headed the
company's Corporate Affairs since 1989. Before that, Mr Gaul was editor at the
"Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger", the "Stuttgarter Zeitung" and the "manager magazin",
and was Deputy Business Division Manager at "Die Zeit".
