BMW 328i CLAIMS TWO MAJOR NORTH AMERICAN DISTINCTIONS: The Automotive
Journalists Association of Canada's (AJAC) 1999 Best New Luxury Sedan, and one
of three BMW's included in Car and Driver's 10Best Awards
After only 3 months on the Canadian market, BMW?s newly-designed 328i has
captured the distinction of becoming 1999's Best New Luxury Sedan as voted on
by members of the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC).
"It is an honour to have the new BMW 328i named as AJAC?s 1999 Best New Luxury
Sedan," expresses Hendrik von Kuenheim, President and CEO of BMW?s Canadian
operations. "The journalists? recognition in this manor is a compliment to all
of our engineers and designers, as well as a direct reflection of BMW?s
continued dedication to providing a high standard of quality, performance and
handling."
Every year AJAC's top automotive journalists spend four days at Shannonville
Motorsport Park near Belleville, Ontario collecting comparison data on dozens
of vehicles. The program includes testing of acceleration, braking, vehicle
dynamics, maneuverability and even off-road capability where applicable.
Journalists compile their data on a secret ballot which is tabulated by the
international accounting firm KPMG. To be eligible for the competition,
vehicles entered must be available for sale to the public by January 1, 1999.
South of the border, the 328i/M3 is one of three BMW automobiles included in
Car and Driver magazine's list of 10Best Cars the BMW 5 Series, and M coupe/M
roadster are also included. This is the eighth consecutive year that the BMW 3
Series has been chosen to this list.
To be eligible for the 10Best list, a car must be available to the public by
the end of January 1999, and not exceed a price of $55,000 (US) including all
applicable fees and taxes. All nominees are tested and evaluated by Car and
Driver editors, who then rate each car on a scale of 100. The 10 that receive
the highest average scores are declared the winners.
