BMW Enters Cruiser Motorcycle Market With The New R1200C

Whitby, Ontario, April 1, 1997 ... Earlier today in Munich, Germany, BMW
officially announced its entry into the growing Cruiser motorcycle market with
the thrilling, all-new R1200C. Speculations, drawings and even spy photos have
been seen in the international motorcycle press. The worldwide introduction of
the first BMW cruiser, the R1200C, is scheduled for the fall of this year.
Canadians, however, can expect to see this unique and unmistakable model at BMW
Motorcycle dealerships across Canada already in July.

The R1200C is based on the modern four-valve engine and Telelever suspension
technology of the new Boxer generation introduced in 1993. It features a
flat-twin Boxer engine enlarged to a displacement of 1170 cc, complete with
Digital Motor Electronics and three-way catalytic converter fitted as standard
worldwide. Like nearly all BMW motorcycles, the R1200 C is also available with
ABS.

Reflecting the typical character of a cruiser, the engine is designed for extra
torque at low speeds and not so much for high maximum output. Accordingly, it
reaches its maximum power of 61 bhp at 5000 rpm, its maximum torque of 95 Nm at
3000 rpm.

The R1200C weighs 265 kg in road trim. Seat height is only 740mm, clearly
reflecting the purpose of this stylish cruiser and of course particularly
suitable for the short rider.

Clearly an outstanding engine aesthetically and in terms of performance, the
flat-twin Boxer so typical of BMW, as well as the unique, functional and
emotional design of the R1200C as a whole give BMW's new cruiser a truly
unmistakable, powerful look.
