Whitby, Ontario, April 3, 1997 ... Boosted by a booming demand for its high-end
luxury sedans, BMW Canada Inc. reported today record sales for the first
quarter totaling 1, 145 units, a year-to-date increase of over 36 percent.
March sales jumped by 25 percent to 584 units from 467 in 1996.
BMW's 7-Series achieved its best month ever with 122 retailed units in March,
jumping to a total of 235 units for the first quarter, up 52 percent over sales
for the same period last year. BMW's flagship was thus the prestige luxury
sedan in greatest demand so far in Canada for 1997. BMW's 7 Series includes 8-
and 12-cylinder models that retail in Canada from $85,900 to $129,500.
"Since its launch to the Canadian public over two years ago, our flagship has
always been attracting consumers because of its elegant styling and dynamic
driving characteristics. It was the automobile in greatest demand in the top
luxury segment in Europe again last year, and now that the Canadian automotive
market is gaining momentum, our 7-Series is taking a good share of the highly
competitive luxury/performance segment", commented Ed Robinson, the President
and CEO of BMW's Canadian operations.
Although sales were strong across BMW product lines, the company broke another
record with its 5-Series. With 137 retailed units, BMW's line of mid-size
four-door sedans also enjoyed its best month ever since its introduction in May
of last year.
"Our product has been extremely well received by our organization and our
customers who not only enjoy the product, but the BMW experience in total",
Robinson continued.
