BMW unveiled today the newest model in its impressive cruiser line, the R1200C
Independent, at the INTERMOT Show in Munich, Germany. Following on the heals of
the previous two popular R 1200 Cruisers, this new model offers riders an even
higher degree of personalization.

This new cruiser is available in two new paint colour combinations: ivory
non-metallic/bronze metallic twin-tone with black hand-painted lining and
twin-tone mandarin non-metallic/graphite metallic with white hand-painted
lining. The twin-tone paint work accentuates the flowing lines and shapes of
the BMW R1200C Independent, and distinguishes it from the Classic and the
Avantgarde models.

The unique character of the R1200C Independent is further underlined by the
tinted speedster windshield, two additional smaller fog lamps, and new wheels.
On the new model, the cross-spoke wheels are replaced by two-piece aluminum
wheels with three spoke inner hubs; the spoke rim and inner hub being connected
to one another by titanium bolts.

As standard, the R1200C Independent comes with a solo seat, placing the rider
right in the center of his/her motorcycle. Riders who do not want to be as
independent as the name suggests have the choice of either a small or large
passenger seat with footrests for the passenger.

The new R1200C Independent model makes for an even "glossier" appearance than
its Classic counterpart. The cover on the alternator at the front end of the
engine housing, the redesigned air intake grid upstream of the oil coolers, the
clutch and handbrake levers, and the caps on the equalization reservoirs for
brake and clutch fluids are all finished in high-gloss chrome. Direction
indicators come with white lenses over yellow bulbs, and the chrome-plated
rear-view mirror housings have been redesigned for a sleeker, more oval shape.

BMW entered into the market for cruiser motorcycles in September 1997 with the
introduction of its R1200C Classic and in the fall of 1999, introduced the
Avantgarde version.

The BMW R1200C has been making headlines since its initial introduction to the
market. It appeared in the James Bond thriller "Tomorrow Never Dies", won
numerous design awards, and clinched victories in "Cruiser of the Year"
contests held by motorcycle magazines around the world in 1999 and 2000. This
critical success is paralleled only by its market success. To date, production
at BMW's Berlin motorcycle plant has surpassed 25,000 units.

The 2001 R1200C Independent will arrive at Canadian BMW Motorcycle retail
centres later this fall. Pricing is not yet available.

BMW Canada Inc., based in Whitby, Ontario, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of BMW
AG and is responsible for the distribution of BMW luxury performance
automobiles, Sports Activity Vehicles, motorcycles, and beginning in 2002 the
new MINI. BMW is represented by a total network of 32 BMW retail centres and 16
BMW motorcycle retailers across the country.
