The all-road benchmark has raised the bar again.
February 11, Whitby, ON?The Sports Activity Vehicle that delivers everything
you would expect from a BMW just got better with the Canadian premiere today of
the new X5 4.8is. Available as of April production, the new range-topper will
be priced at $96,500.
The heart of the X5 4.8is features a VALVETRONIC equipped engine capable of
producing 355hp @ 6200 rpm, 369ft/lb of torque @ 3600 rpm and fuel consumption
savings of up to 19% over the previous X5 4.6is. Mated to a 6-speed automatic
transmission with Steptronic the X5 4.8is is capable of 0-100 km/h in 6.1
seconds. As befitting such power, braking is handled by massive 356mm front
vented rotors and 324mm rear vented rotors with standard 20 inch V spoke wheels
on all four corners.
As found in the entire SAV line-up for 2004 the 4.8is drivetrain features
xDrive all-wheel drive. Operating proactively, xDrive eliminates unstable
driving conditions before they happen by variably and infinitely adjusting
power through the front and rear axles. Not only does this provide optimum
acceleration and handling at all times and in all conditions but also ensures
safety.
The X5 4.8is distinguishes itself with an aerodynamic kit that includes front,
side and rear skirts in body colour. Combined with the matt-chrome finish dual
exhaust tailpipes the intention is clear that this is a vehicle with presence.
The long list of standard features includes such notables as a full air
suspension with active ride height, a Panorama sunroof, adaptive headlights, an
audiophile 12-speaker sound system with Digital Sound Processing and telephone
pre-wire for Bluetooth.
The new X5 4.8is can be viewed at the Canadian International Autoshow in
Toronto from February 13th to 22nd.
