Munich/New York. The Goethe Institute in New York will be changing its profile
and presenting new projects in the future: On 8 February, the new "Ludlow 38"
exhibition space will be opening in the centre of the lively gallery district
in the Lower East Side, near Chinatown and not far from the New Museum of
Contemporary Art, in cooperation with Kunstverein München and MINI as its
exclusive partners.

The New York Goethe Institute's new "Ludlow 38" exhibition space is totally
given over to contemporary art. The artists Ethan Breckenridge and Liam Gillick
designed the space, which is located in the heart of the booming gallery scene
on the Lower East Side. Kunstverein München, represented by Stefan Kalmár and
Daniel Pies, will be arranging exhibitions, discussions and performances for a
year, under the title "USA 2008" and featuring German and international
artists.

On 8 February, the new gallery will be formally opened with the exhibition
"publish and be damned", a London archive of independent journals. Over 300
international publications will be presented in what is probably the most
comprehensive collection of its kind. British curators Emily Pethick (Director
of the Showroom in London), Kit Hammonds (curator of the South London Gallery)
and Sarah McCrory (curator of "publish and be damned") have been collecting
these works since 2004. The exhibition presents fanzines (magazines by fans for
fans) such as "Ziggy", "Zowie", "Blondiak", "Dark Star" and "Useless" or
magazines such as "Control", "Pablo internacional", "Inventory". In addition,
journals such as "Dot Dot Dot", "Copenhagen Free University/Infopool",
"Metronome", "Anarchitektur", "Fucking Good Art" and glossy magazines such as
"Crash!" will be on display. The archive also contains video and cassette
editions plus radio plays and independent record labels, including "Another
Album" and "Junior Aspirin". The exhibition includes works by artists such as
Jeremy Deller, Scott King, Pablo Bronstein, Raymond Pettibon, Spartacus
Chetwynd, Nils Norman, Stephan Dillemuth, Stephan Willats, Cathy Lomax, Eleanor
Brown, Aline Bouvy, Sonia Dermience and Meeuw Muzak.

"Ludlow 38" has been made possible through a collaboration with MINI. "MINI is
proud of its long-term collaboration with the Goethe Institute. Our involvement
in "Ludlow 38" in the Lower East Side is the perfect platform in New York for
international, sophisticated, contemporary art", says Dr Kay Segler, Head of
Brand MINI, delightedly. In its partnership with brands like "Bisazza" and its
involvement with FIAC 2007 or the International Talent Support / MINI
International Photo Award in Triest, MINI is also remaining true to itself in
the area of culture through unconventional projects.

"Ludlow 38"
is located at 38 Ludlow Street 38 (between Grand and Hester Street),
New York, 10002.
Opening hours: Thursday, Friday and Saturday, from 12 noon to 8 p.m.
or by personal arrangement.
