Munich. Jean-François Lucquin has won a BMW 535i Saloon worth around €80,000 at the BMW International Open. The Frenchman celebrated a hole-in-one at the 17th, when his 184–yard (168-metre) six-iron trickled straight into the hole.

After completing his round, Lucquin was presented with the key to his fantastic new car by Ian Robertson, BMW Group Board Member for Sales and Marketing. “Extraordinary sporting exploits deserve special reward,” said Robertson. “We’re very pleased that finally another player has succeed in winning this excellent prize, and wish Jean-François Lucquin every enjoyment with the BMW 535i.”

Lucquin celebrated with arms aloft as his brilliant tee-shot found the cup, before planting a kiss on the bonnet of his new car. The 31-year-old was not exactly prepared for his feat at the 17th, having carded a double bogey on the previous hole. In all, he took 77 shots for his fourth round to finish the tournament in 72nd place.

The 17th hole is known as “Dornröschenloch” (the Sleeping Beauty) among the members of GC Eichenried, as it is only played once a year – in the BMW International Open. Just one player had ever previously managed a hole-in-one at the Dornröschenloch, Raphael Jacquelin winning a BMW Z8 in recognition of his achievement here in 2001. And now his compatriot Lucquin has followed in his footsteps.
