LUPINO NINTH IN THE BRAZILIAN MX2 GP

Biandronno, Italy. 21st May 2012 – Brazil’s fine Beto Carrero track played host to the fifth round of the MX2 world championships this weekend, the second South American race so far this season. Unfortunately weather conditions put a damper on the race with heavy downpours on Sunday morning making racing difficult for both bikes and riders.

Alex Lupino of the Husqvarna Motocross Team By Ricci Racing managed to bring home some important points thanks to eleventh and eighth place finishes which allow him to hold on to ninth overall place in the world championship standings.

In the opening race Lupino got off to a poor start and struggled on an increasingly treacherous and tough track, setting out with the aim of trouble-free finish.

Lupino got away well in the second run, straight away grabbing fifth place as they set off. Unluckily, after some ten minutes of racing, one of the lapped riders forced him off and he dropped down to eighth place. He nevertheless showed fine pace and never dropped far behind the leading riders.

The new Husqvarna TC 250R keeps on improving and has made the finishing line in all ten of the races fought so far by the Italian rider.

The next round of the MX2 championship is to be held in France on the 2nd and 3rd of June.

Alex Lupino: “What a tough race! The first run was a total gamble! I thought just don’t make any mistakes and try to finish the race. The start didn’t help much and I had to fight back. Shame about the second race where I really felt a lot more at ease which was reflected in my finish time. I was in fifth place when I came off and I lost time trying to lift the bike out of all that mud! I finished eighth but could have done a lot better. But anyway, I’m happy with the way that the world championship is going and the way that the team is working. We’re on the right path.”

MX2 World Championship standings after five rounds: 1. Herlings (KTM) 194, 2. Van Horebeek (KTM) 154, 3.Searle (Kawasaki) 153, 4.Roelants (Kawasaki) 118, 5.Tixier (KTM) 108, 6. Anstie (Honda) 105, 7. Nicholls (KTM) 105, 8.Ferrandis (Kawasaki) 91, 9. Lupino (Husqvarna) 80
