Richmond Hill. After a brief departure of the MINI Clubman from the MINI lineup in 2014, an all-new 3rd-generation MINI Clubman is poised to join the MINI family early in 2016. Following in the footsteps of the successful 2nd-generation premium sub-compact Clubman, the new MINI Clubman grows in size, entering the Premium Compact segment with increased versatility and product substance and exterior and interior dimensions significantly more generous than its predecessor.
Exterior design: distinctive proportions, typical brand
features, innovative details.
The new MINI Clubman introduces a contemporary interpretation of
the tradition-steeped “estate car” concept. This genre of vehicle –
particularly popular in the UK - MINI’s country of origin, combines
sporting style with functionality. The split doors at the rear,
consisting of two side-opening “wings”, help give the new MINI
Clubman its unique status as a six-door model, emphasizing its
outstanding versatility in typical MINI style.
With a length of 4260 mm, a width of 1800 mm and a height of 1441 mm, the MINI Clubman has distinctive proportions that make it unique within both the MINI lineup and the compact segment as a whole. The wheelbase measures 2670mm, while the track width is 1565 mm at the front and rear. These dimensions provide the ideal basis for a stylish, individual and exclusive appearance, agile driving properties and – thanks to clever space utilization in typical MINI style – a roomy interior as well.
When compared to the new MINI 5 door, the all-new MINI Clubman is 27 centimetres longer and 9 centimetres wider, with a wheelbase longer by 10 centimetres. The all-new MINI Clubman, now incorporating four doors and the unique and the characteristic split doors at the rear, features a generous interior with seating for 5, along with a luggage compartment volume of 360 litres, an optional rear seat folding split configuration of 40:20:40 (standard rear seat split configuration is 40/60), and a maximum storage volume, with the rear seats folded, of 1,250 litres.
Both variants of the new MINI Clubman will be equipped with the latest-generation MINI engines, both featuring MINI TwinPower Turbo Technology direct fuel injection, variable camshaft control on both the intake and exhaust side and variable valve control. Both the Cooper Clubman and Cooper S Clubman models are classified as SULEV (super ultra-low emissions vehicles.
The MINI Cooper Clubman is equipped with a 1.5- litre 3-cylinder engine with an output of 134 horsepower and a maximum torque of 162 ft-lb (170 ft-lb with overboost) and accelerates from 0–100 km/h in a brisk 9.1 seconds, equipped with either manual or Steptronic transmissions.
The MINI Cooper S Clubman is powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder powerplant with an output of 189 horsepower and maximum torque of 207 ft-lb ( 221 ft-lb with overboost) and sprints from 0-100 km/h in 7.2 seconds (automatic: 7.1 seconds).
The new MINI Clubman will go on sale in Canada in January of 2016. The MINI Cooper Clubman will debut with an MSRP of $24,990, while the MINI Cooper S Clubman will be introduced with an MSRP of $28,990
Both models are equipped with 6-speed manual transmissions as standard. The MINI Cooper Clubman is also available with an optional latest-generation 6-speed Steptronic transmission.
The MINI Cooper S Clubman will introduce, for the first time in the MINI lineup, an optional 8-speed Steptronic transmission, enhancing both performance and efficiency, while an 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission with steering wheel shift paddles, will also be an available option, providing even shorter shift times and maximum performance. The 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission also features a Launch Control function for traction-optimised acceleration an maximum dynamic performance from a standing start.
The MINI Cooper Clubman model is fitted as standard with 16-inch light alloy wheels. The new MINI Cooper S Clubman is fitted with 17-inch light alloy wheels as standard. Optional wheel packages up to 19 inches are also available..
MINI Driving Modes: sporting performance and efficiency at
the turn of a switch.
The optional MINI Driving Modes are activated by means of a
rotary switch at the base of the gear or selector lever. In addition
to the standard MID mode there is a choice of SPORT and GREEN mode.
In SPORT mode, throttle and steering response are switched to a
dynamic profile, as are the shift times in cars fitted with
Steptronic transmission. In GREEN mode, a more relaxed and also more
fuel-efficient driving style is supported by intelligent control of
energy and climate management as well as by means of systems such as
shift point display. In cars fitted with Steptronic transmission it
is also possible to use the coasting function. The drivetrain is
decoupled at speeds above 30 mph as soon as the driver's foot is
removed from the accelerator pedal. The new MINI Clubman then rolls
at idling engine speed with a minimum rate of fuel consumption.
The new MINI Clubman also debuts with new features found for the first time in the MINI model range.
These include an electric parking brake , electric front seats and the optional MINI Yours Interior Styles with backlit door bezels. The MINI Excitement Package includes LED interior and ambient lighting as well as a projection of the MINI logo onto the ground from the exterior mirror on the driver's side when the car is opened and closed. Another new feature that is unique in the compact segment is the Comfort Access option including non-contact opening of the split doors at the rear.
Other options available for the new MINI Clubman include LED headlamps, Dual-Zone Automatic Climate Control and Dynamic Damper Control.
