Munich (DE), 5th October 2016. Four major championships were on the schedule for the BMW customer teams and the experts from BMW Motorrad Motorsport last weekend. The MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) and the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup (STK1000) held their races in Magny-Cours. In the STK1000, Raffaele De Rosa (IT) rode onto the podium again. The penultimate round of the 2016 FIM CEV Superbike European Championship (CEV) took place in Jerez de la Frontera (ES), with Maximilian Scheib (CL) claiming a double podium with his BMW S 1000 RR. The famous TT Circuit in Assen (NL) hosted the penultimate round of the 2016 British Superbike Championship (BSB). On all occasions, the RR riders scored more points towards the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy (see full standings below).

MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship in Magny-Cours, France.

For the 11th round of the 2016 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK), the teams travelled to Magny-Cours in central France. Race one on Saturday was held in tricky conditions. There was rain before and during the race, but the track surface dried. This made tyre choice a difficult task and many riders went into the pits halfway through the race to change to slick tyres. Joshua Brookes (AU / Milwaukee BMW), who had opted for slicks right from the start and did not pit, was the highest placed BMW rider, crossing the line in 12th. The two Althea BMW Racing Team riders Jordi Torres (ES) and Markus Reiterberger (DE), Karel Abraham (CZ / Milwaukee BMW) and Matthieu Lussiana (FR / Team ASPI) all went into the pits to change tyres. Torres finished the race in 14th place, Abraham was 16th, followed by Reiterberger in 17th and Lussiana came home in 20th position. The second race on Sunday was held in dry conditions. This time, Torres crossed the line in seventh on his BMW S 1000 RR. Brookes was 11th, Reiterberger followed directly behind in 12th. Abraham finished the race in 16th, Lussiana retired.

FIM Superstock 1000 Cup in Magny-Cours, France.

The title fight in the 2016 FIM Superstock 1000 Cup (STK1000) is in full swing. In the seventh and penultimate race of the year in Magny-Cours (FR), Raffaele De Rosa (IT) reduced the gap to the overall leader. De Rosa rode to third on the podium on his Althea BMW Racing Team BMW S 1000 RR. It was his fifth podium finish of the season. Eric Vionnet (CH / Motos Vionnet) also came home in the points, crossing the line in 15th.

In the championship standings, De Rosa is second overall and only seven points behind leader Leandro Mercado (AR) with one race to go. The final round will be held in two week’s time in Spanish Jerez.

FIM CEV Superbike European Championship in Jerez, Spain.

The FIM CEV Superbike European Championship (CEV) also held its penultimate round of the 2016 season last weekend. The races took place in Jerez (ES). Maximilian Scheib (CL / Targobank EasyRace SBK Team) continued his streak of podium finishes on his BMW S 1000 RR. The young Chilean ended both races in second place and rode the fastest lap in race two. In the ten races held so far this season, Scheib has stood on the podium on nine occasions. In the overall standings, he is second. His team-mate Marcos Solorza (AR) finished both races in fifth position. Roberto Blazquez (ES / ARC Competición) was 14th and 12th respectively.

British Superbike Championship in Assen, the Netherlands.

The famous TT Circuit in Assen (NL) hosted two races for the Superbike class of the British Superbike Championship (BSB SBK) last weekend. Michael Laverty (GB / Tyco BMW) was the highest placed BMW rider, finishing sixth on both occasions. Richard Cooper (GB / Buildbase BMW Motorrad) also ended both races in the top ten, claiming eighth and tenth respectively. Laverty’s Tyco BMW team-mate Christian Iddon (GB) was 12th and eighth. Points also went to Jakub Smrz (CZ / Smiths Racing BMW), who crossed the line in 14th and 11th, and to Lee Jackson (GB / Buildbase BMW Motorrad), who came home in 15th and 13th.
