Barrier celebrates EVO win in the WSBK – Kiyonari reigns with his BMW S 1000 RR at Donington Park.

Munich, 10th September 2014. The last weekend once more saw the BMW Motorrad Motorsport customers celebrating successes in their respective championships. In the EVO class of the FIM Superbike World Championship (WSBK), Frenchman Sylvain Barrier claimed another win at Jerez de la Frontera (ES). Ryuichi Kiyonari (JP) was the man to beat in the British Superbike Championship (BSB), and also in the Spanish Superbike Championship (CEV) privateer BMW Motorrad riders achieved top results.

FIM Superbike World Championship in Jerez.

After a break of nearly two months, the FIM Superbike World Championship's 2014 season resumed last weekend. The tenth round of the season was held in Spain's Jerez de le Frontera. The specialists from BMW Motorrad Motorsport again were on site to support their customers in the pinnacle of production based motorcycle racing. They had reason to be satisfied once more, with Sylvain Barrier (FR) and the BMW Motorrad Italia SBK Team having a nearly perfect weekend with their BMW S 1000 RR EVO. In race one Barrier was leading the EVO class for most of the distance and finished second, missing the class win by only a few tenths of a second. In the overall classification he was tenth. In race two Barrier had a big lead over the other EVO riders and crossed the line as winner of the EVO class (11th overall).

BMW Team Toth enters two BMW S 1000 RRs in the WSBK. Gabor Rizmayer (HU) rode the EVO version at Jerez, finishing the races in 16th and 14th overall respectively. Imre Toth (HU) competes with the Superbike version of the RR. He was 18th in race one, but retired in race two.

FIM Superstock 1000 Cup in Jerez.

The Jerez circuit also hosted the sixth round of the 2014 FIM Superstock 1000 Cup (WSTK) whose races are held on WSBK weekends. Four privateer BMW Motorrad riders compete in this series. Robert Muresan (RO/H-Moto Team) finished the race in tenth with his BMW S 1000 RR. Remo Castellarin (IT/Cast16 Corse), who rides a BMW HP4, was 13th, followed by Federico Sandi (IT/Team Motoxracing) in 14th. Federico d’Annunzio (IT/FDA Racing Team) was 21st.

British Superbike Championship at Donington Park.

At the ninth round of the British Superbike Championship, held at Donington Park (GB) last weekend, Ryuichi Kiyonari dominated. The Japanese rider won both races on his  Buildbase BMW Motorrad BMW S 1000 RR and set the fastest lap in race two. It was his second double-victory of the 2014 season. Kiyonari is currently third in the BSB overall championship ranking, being one of the riders fighting for the 2014 title. In the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy rankings he improved from 21st to 16th. His team-mate James Westmoreland (GB) delivered a pair of top ten finishes, crossing the line in tenth and eighth respectively. Patric Muff (CH/Bathams’s Prize Winning Ales) claimed ninth in race one and finished 16th in race two on his BMW S 1000 RR. His team-mate Michael Rutter (GB) was 16th in race one but retired in race two.

In the Superstock class race Buildbase BMW Motorrad rider Lee Jackson (GB) set a new lap record with his BMW S 1000 RR. He crossed the line in fourth, directly followed by Hudson Kennaugh (ZA / Linxcel Moto Racing) in fifth. In the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy, Jackson continues to climb up in the standings, and is now seventh. Spanish Superbike Championship in Navarra.

The Spanish Motorcycle Championship (CEV) was racing at Navarra (ES) this weekend. In the Superbike class race Daniel Rivas Fernandes (ES) missed the podium by only a second on his BMW S 1000 RR entered by the Easyrace Superbike Team. He finished fourth, directly followed by Ivan Silva Alberola (ES/Targobank Motorsport) in fifth. Eeki Kuparinen from Finland (Motomarket Racing) also crossed the line in the top ten, finishing ninth. With the Race Trophy points they collected for these results, all of them improved in the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy rankings by several positions.

It is still possible to register for the 2014 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy on the website www.bmw-motorrad.de/motorsport. The deadline for registrations for the current season is not until 2nd November 2014, entry is free. Regardless of when the registrations are received, each participant will receive points for all the race events he/she has competed in since the start of the scoring period on 15th February 2014. So the ranking can also continuously change as new participants are added.
