Extension of the BMW 1 Series: BMW 118i (95kW/129 bhp) from December
2004. Munich. Shortly after the market launch of the long awaited BMW 1
Series on 18. September, the BMW 118i will already follow from December
as the "Middle" of the model range. With 95kW/129 bhp
extracted from two litres of capacity, the BMW 118i possesses the same
technical attributes as the 120i top petrol model including sporty and
efficient highlights such as the fully variable valve train without
throttle valve (double Vanos with Valvetronic) and the tautly shifting
six speed automatic and manual gearboxes. As is the case for all BMW 1
Series, the standard equipment of the 118i includes16 inch tyres with
emergency run properties, tyre damage indicator, two-stage brake
lights, DSC drive stability system including emergency brake detection,
electronic differential lock and traction control as well as cornering
brake assistant. Together with the six airbags the BMW 1 Series thus
has all the requirements for receiving five stars in the EuroNCAP crash
test. Superior agility and sporty driving performance distinguish the
BMW 118i from its competitors. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in
only 9.4 seconds, top speed is 208 km/h. Fuel consumption is quite
moderate at 7.3 l/100 km. The sales price of the BMW 118i in Germany

Very encouraging is the number of orders for the new BMW 1 Series:
Before the first test drive opportunities in July, more than 10,000
customers had submitted "blind" orders already. The BMW 1
Series has five doors and is 4.23 metres long. It's BMW typical drive
concept, powerful engines and the resulting driving pleasure together
with the high-grade equipment represent a new alternative in the
compact class. The BMW 1 Series addresses those customers who
appreciated the practical aspects of existing compact cars but have
been searching in vain for a car to meet their extended requirements
regarding driving pleasure and individuality. The BMW 1 Series meets
