BMW Art Car World Tour 2025 will stop off in Munich from 17 June with the legendary BMW Art Cars based on the 3 Series. The BMW Museum in Munich is using a special exhibition taking place as part of the international BMW Art Car World Tour to celebrate the 50-year anniversary of both the legendary BMW Art Car Collection and the iconic BMW 3 Series.
Following its global debut in 2024, the BMW Group is proud to present the 20th BMW Art Car, designed by internationally renowned artist Julie Mehretu, at this year’s edition of Art Basel Hong Kong. The showcase is part of the ongoing BMW Art Car World Tour, celebrating 50 years of the iconic “rolling sculptures” that unite art, design, and innovation.

Julie Mehretu presents her first design studies for the 20th BMW Art Car. For this project, the internationally renowned artist combines her artistic work with a personal enthusiasm for automotive design and speed. She translates dynamism into form and applies one of her monumental motifs from a two-dimensional picture plane onto a three-dimensional industrially designed object.
BMW and Frieze continue their long-term partnership with BMW Open Work by Frieze, the annual major art initiative. In 2023, Marseille-based artist Sara Sadik will debut a film and video game conceived for the new BMW i5 at KOKO in Camden Town. The pioneering multi-platform format, curated by Attilia Fattori Franchini is bringing together art, technology and design.
On the occasion of Art Basel in Basel 2023, BMW proudly presents “The Electric AI Canvas” an extension of the entirely virtual work "The Ultimate AI Masterpiece". Now, for the very first time, released as an awe-inspiring physical art experience that transforms the 100% electric BMW i5 into a dynamic canvas of distinct generative art and featuring works by contemporary artists Esther Mahlangu, Kohei Nawa, Eric N. Mack, Koo Jiyoon and Bin Woo Hyuk.
To celebrate 50 years of cultural commitment, BMW is joining forces with Acute Art to initiate a unique exhibition: For the first time ever the renowned BMW Art Car Collection is shown in augmented reality (AR). On July 21, the project is launched via the free Acute Art app, marking the first time that the digital rolling sculptures are available for everyone all around the world at any time.

On the occasion of Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation’s (LDF) Fourth Annual Saint-Tropez Gala, BMW France had the pleasure to donate a BMW i3, designed by Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari of TOILETPAPER, for the yearly fundraising auction. After some intense bidding, the unique artwork and fully functioning electric vehicle went to a Swiss collector for the amount of €100,000.

Miami Beach. Art Basel and BMW continue their joint initiative to recognize and support emerging artists worldwide with the announcement of the shortlist for the BMW Art Journey on December 1, 2016, during this year’s Art Basel in Miami Beach. Like a mobile studio, the BMW Art Journey can take artists almost anywhere in the world to develop new ideas and envision new creative projects.

On November 30, the BMW Art Car by John Baldessari celebrated its world premiere in the presence of the artist himself, Ludwig Willisch, President and CEO BMW of North America, and Jens Marquardt, Director BMW Motorsport, on occasion of Art Basel Miami Beach. Following the 40-year tradition of BMW Art Cars, Baldessari’s M6 GTLM will prove itself on the race track of Rolex 24 at DAYTONA on January 28 and 29, 2017.
Cao Fei, the first Chinese artist commissioned to design a BMW Art Car, shared her inspirations and design concept for her “rolling sculpture” during a media briefing at her Beijing studio on Thursday, August 25. The 18th BMW Art Car, which is based on the BMW M6 GT3, is set to debut in 2017.

On the occasion of the opening of this year’s Rencontres d’Arles Festival of Photography (July 4 – September 25) its long-term partner BMW and Toilet Paper, a bi-annual avantgarde picture-based publication and brand created by artist Maurizio Cattelan together with photographer Pierpaolo Ferrari, announce the joint creation of a BMW i3 “Spaghetti Car.”
Munich/Basel. Art Basel and BMW are pleased to present British artist Abigail Reynolds (represented by ROKEBY, London) as the next BMW Art Journey winner. The international jury selected her unanimously from a shortlist of three artists whose works were exhibited in the Discoveries sector at this year’s Art Basel show in Hong Kong.
