fleet in Europe by more than 35 percent since 1995, at the same time enhancing Sheer Driving Pleasure to an even higher standard than ever before.
BMW EfficientDynamics is already a standard feature in every new BMW, setting the foundation for a wide range of innovations for even lower emissions and even greater driving pleasure in the years and decades to come.
At the 2011 Johannesburg International Motor Show, BMW is presenting new models and future-oriented concepts providing all the features and technologies for an ongoing process of development into the future.
The BMW Vision EfficientDynamics concept car, for example, being presented to South African motoring fans for the first time, clearly represents the objectives and the potentials of this development strategy in its most concentrated form.
Indeed, this car reduces both energy consumption and CO2 emissions in an unusually effective manner, all the way to an absolutely clean motoring experience without using even the smallest amount of fossil fuel. And at the same time it offers all the performance of a thoroughbred sports car.
The forerunner to the BMW i8 Concept – which was shown to the world at last month‘s 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA) in Germany- the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics represents the latest generation of sports cars: progressive, intelligent and innovative. Thanks to its plug-in hybrid concept, it combines an internal combustion engine and an electric drive into an exceptional driving experience – an adventure with extremely low fuel consumption and emissions.
This outstanding concept car comes with the widest range of BMW EfficientDynamics technologies ever seen, extending from the combustion engine with its outstanding efficiency through intelligent energy management and BMW ActiveHybrid technology with innovative electric storage technology all the way to lightweight engineering and consistently optimised aerodynamics.
This outstanding concept car points the way to the first production vehicles offered by the new sub-brand, BMW i, and gives a first impression of these eagerly awaited production cars. The BMW i8 – which is based on the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics - will roll off the production line in 2014 at the BMW plant in Leipzig.
