Munich/Brescia. Eighty years ago this year saw the start of one of the most famous and exciting automobile races in the world: the Mille Miglia. But this is not the only anniversary being celebrated between the 17th and 20th of May: The Mille Miglia is being staged as an endurance race for the 25th time. To mark this round birthday, another celebrant is finding its way to Brescia: Ninety years after the founding of the BMW brand, BMW Mobile Tradition is sending nine of its most precious automotive jewels to Northern Italy. Together with over 300 other classic racing cars they will embark on the legendary 1000 mile drive from Brescia to Rome via Ferrara and back.

mile drive from Brescia to Rome via Ferrara and back.
The new director of BMW Mobile Tradition, Karl Baumer, will be at the starting
line in Brescia for the first time. He emphasises the close relationship
between the white-blue brand and the Mille Miglia: "The BMW brand has always
been defined by the spirit of racing competition and the experience gained
there. The Mille Miglia is a milestone in its 90-year success story," says
Baumer.
Last year's winner Giuliano Cané and his co-pilot Lucia Galliani have set
themselves a special goal for the anniversary race of the Mille Miglia - to
celebrate his tenth victory after starting in the Mille Miglia for the
fifteenth year. The BMW 328 Berlin-Rome Roadster by the Italian coachbuilder
Touring will help carry him over the finish line as the winner. In the
"Anniversary Mille", Prince Leopold of Bavaria will place his trust in a BMW
328, as will the many-time winners of the Ladies' Cup, Franca Boni and Monica
Barziza.
