Whitby. BMW Canada announced pricing today for the new 2007 X5 Sports Activity
Vehicle. The 2007 X5 Sports Activity Vehicle will be available in two variants,
6-cylinder BMW X5 3.0si, launching with a base MSRP of $61,900 and the
8-cylinder BMW X5 4.8i with a base MSRP of $73,500. It will begin arriving at
BMW Retailers at the end of November, featuring higher performance, enhanced
driving dynamics, more luxury and increased interior flexibility.
Both versions of the new 2007 BMW X5 debut with an attractive and refined new
exterior presenting a sleeker, more dynamic presence, but unmistakably X5.
Technical improvements abound, with upgraded engines, transmissions,
body/chassis and suspension enhancements and interior and equipment levels that
will reset the benchmark in the segment that the predecessor X5 created.
The BMW X5 3.0si is powered by the latest version of BMW's lightweight 3.0
litre inline six-cylinder mangnesium/aluminum composite block engine, featuring
Valvetronic variable valve-lift technology and double-VANOS. The new engine not
only boasts an output of 260 horspower @ 6600 rpm and 225 ft-lb of torque
available from 2750 rpm, up 35 horsepower and 11 ft-lb over its predecessor,
but increased fuel efficiency. Only available with the upgraded 6-speed
automatic Steptronic transmission, the X5 3.0si will sprint from 0-100 km/h in
8.3 seconds.
The BMW X5 4.8i is equipped with an all-aluminum 4.8 litre V8 with Valvetronic
variable valve-lift technology with 350 horsepower and an identical torque
figure, a gain of 35 horsepower and 26 ft-lb over the previous-generation X5
4.4i. Also only available with the new 6-speed automatic Steptronic
transmission, the X5 4.8i thunders from 0-100 km/h in just 6.8 seconds.
With shift response improved by up to 50% and an increased threshold of
torque-convertor lock-up, the new 6-speed automatic transmission plays a
significant role in the higher performance of both X5 models. Complementing the
new automatic transmission is an all-new electronic shifter with separate
integrated Park button and the Drive, Sport and Manual modes selected by
toggling the lever left or right. An electrohydraulic parking brake also debuts
on the new X5s.
The all-new X5 exterior, while maintaining the classic character of the
original, has a refined new design which optimizes not only interior space, but
makes the new X5 the most aerodynamically efficient vehicle in its category.
The larger interior, in addition to offering greater passenger comfort and
cargo space, has also facilitated the option of 3rd row seating which folds
flat for added versatility. Both models now come standard with Nevada Leather
upholstery.
Underpinning the new chassis and body structure, which is some 15% torsionally
rigid than its predecessor, is a new front suspension featuring a double
wishbone multi-link with upper A-arms in addition to double-pivot lower links.
This configuration further optimizes handling agility and overall stability -
maintaining the X5's already category-leading driving dynamics.
Another hallmark, the all-new X5 also becomes the first vehicle in its segment
to be available with Active Steering and AdaptiveDrive - a combination of
anti-roll stabilization and electronic damper control - and the first Sports
Activity Vehicle to be equipped with standard runflat tires.
The all-new X5 is, of course, equipped with BMW xDrive Intelligent All-Wheel
Drive system, providing the most sophisticated traction optimization available
in a Sports Activity vehicle with the complete integration of xDrive, Dynamic
Stability Control and, where equipped, Active Steering.
Continuing and strengthening its reputation as one of the safest vehicles on
the planet, the new X5 easily passes all recently-introduced U.S. Federal Motor
Vehicle Safety Standards while achieving "excellent" results in the Euro-NCAP
New Car Assessment Program test regime.
As a successor to the current generation X5 Sports Activity Vehicle, which
successfully carved out a special reputation in the sport-utility category -
selling some 580,000 vehicles to date, the all-new X5 will truly set a new
benchmark in the premium segment that, in fact, it newly defined.
