Opening win for the BMW S 1000 RR in the Brazilian Superbike Championship – Double podium at round one of the SUPERBIKE*IDM.

BMW Motorrad riders tasted success in Brazil and the SUPERBIKE*IDM last weekend – Oulton Park hosted round two of the BSB.

Munich, 7th May 2014. No break in the action for BMW Motorrad Motorsport: the experts from Munich were on the road again last weekend, supporting BMW Motorrad privateers at the racetrack. The BMW S 1000 RR made a successful start to the 2014 season in the International German Motorcycle Championship (SUPERBIKE*IDM) at the Lausitzring (DE), while Oulton Park (UK) hosted the second round of the British Superbike Championship (BSB). And the 2014 season started with a real bang in South America: the BMW HP4 dominated round one of the Brazilian Superbike Championship (BRSBK) in Santa Cruz do Sul (BR).

The man on the BMW HP4 dominated proceedings at the opening round of the Brazilian Superbike Championship (BRSBK) in Santa Cruz do Sul: Matthieu Lussiana. The Frenchman competes for BMW Motorrad Alex Barros Racing in the pinnacle of the Brazilian Championship, the GP 1000 class. And he made the perfect start in Santa Cruz: Lussiana secured pole position, the fastest race lap, and a comfortable race win. He crossed the finish line after 16 laps with a commanding lead of 27 seconds.

As well as the victorious Lussiana, the field in the GP 1000 class also featured a further four BMW Motorrad riders. Luciano Ribodino (AR) came home fifth on a BMW HP4 run by BMW Motorrad Alex Barros Racing. Danilo Andric (BR / M2B Racing) finished ninth to add a third top-ten finish for the BMW riders. Lucas Barros (BR / BMW Motorrad Alex Barros Racing) and Daniel Lenzi (BR / Grinjets) were 11th and 12th respectively.

The race in the GP Light class was held over 12 laps. Best-placed BMW Motorrad rider was Fernando Neiva (BR / Black Day Racing Team) in ninth place, followed by Lucas Teadoro (BR / BMW Motorrad Alex Barros Racing) in tenth. Ricardo Hayashi (BR / Dawnriders Racing Team) finished 16th, while Mardenizio Rocha (BR / Razza Racing Team) came home 24th.

SUPERBIKE*IDM at the Lausitzring.

The 2014 season of the fiercely-competitive International German Motorcycle Championship is underway, and the series once again features a high-class international field. The riders and teams completed their preparations with a three-day test at the Lausitzring (DE) last week. The test was dominated by reigning champion Markus Reiterberger (DE) of the Van Zon Remeha BMW team on his BMW S 1000 RR, who made a highly-regarded wildcard debut in the FIM World Superbike Championship (WSBK) at the Nürburgring last season. He was the fastest man in most sessions, and also clocked the fastest time of the entire test.

The Lausitzring then also hosted the first round of the season at the weekend. Reiterberger secured pole in Saturday’s Superpole qualifying to confirm his fine form. The young Bavarian then claimed his first double podium of the season in the opening races on Sunday. Reiterberger crossed the line third in both races. His team-mate and reigning Superstock champion Bastien Mackels (BE) finished seventh and sixth on his debut in the Superbike class. Stefan Nebel (DE), who rides a BMW HP4 run by the Wilbers BMW Racing team, came home sixth in the opening race and seventh in race two. Victory in both races went to Spain’s Xavi Forés, followed on both occasions by former WSBK rider Max Neukirchner (DE) in second place.

BMW Motorrad riders and teams dominated the Superstock class, which is integrated in the Superbike field but classified separately. They occupied places one through five in the opening race. Marco Nekvasil (AT / Interwetten Racing by Fritze Tuning) won on an RR, ahead of Lucy Glöckner (DE), who lined up on a Wilbers BMW Racing HP4. Dominik Vincon (DE / BMW Stilgenbauer) completed the Superstock podium in third place, followed by another two RR riders in Leon Bovee (NL / Van Zon Remeha BMW) and Mark Albrecht (DE / racing4fun.de) in fourth and fifth. BMW Motorrad riders claimed the top four positions in race two: Nekvasil was victorious again – this time ahead of Vincon, Bovee and Albrecht.

British Superbike Championship at Oulton Park.

BMW Motorrad Motorsport was also on site to support the BMW Motorrad customer racing teams at Oulton Park in England. This was the venue for round two of the British Superbike Championship BSB on Monday. The best BMW rider in the Superbike class in both races was James Westmoreland (UK), who finished eighth and 12th on his BMW S 1000 RR run by Buildbase BMW Motorrad. Michael Rutter (UK / Bathams Prize Winning Ales) came home 11th and 12th  and twelfth, while RR rider Martin Jessop (UK) of RidersMotorcycles.com BMW was twelfth and 14th. Rutter’s Swiss team-mate Patrick Muff was 14th and 15th. Luck deserted Buildbase BMW Motorrad rider Ryuichi Kiyonari (JP): the former WSBK rider failed to finish both races.

Four BMW Motorrad privateers lined up in the fiercely-competitive Superstock class in the BSB. As he did at the season-opener at Brands Hatch (UK), Lee Jackson (UK) of the Buildbase BMW Motorrad team finished sixth on a BMW S 1000 RR. Hudson Kennaugh (UK / Linxcel Trik Moto Racing) was tenth, while Rob McNealy (UK / McNealy Brown Ltd) crossed the finish line in 27th place. Jimmy Storrar (UK / Jimmy Storrar Racing) failed to finish the race.
