Midrand. BMW South Africa will offer additional standard specifications on all BMW models produced from this month (July 2016). The added specifications will strengthen BMW’s product offering within the premium segment and deliver more Sheer Driving Pleasure to customers.

The new added standard specifications are as follows:

  • Navigation System Business
  • ConnectedDrive Services
  • Real Time Traffic Information (RTTI)
  • Metallic Paintwork (excluding BMW Individual Paintwork or special requests)

Navigation System Business

The BMW Navigation System Business has a built-in 6,5" black-panel colour monitor with a high resolution colour display, dynamic route guidance with automatic alternative routes available presented in the cockpit or on the BMW Head-Up Display, 2D map or combined arrow and map display. It also includes the BMW Radio Professional, CD drive, iDrive Controller and functional bookmarks.

Navigation System Professional:

The Professional navigation system offers drivers a design implemented completely in 3D combined with an innovative interface concept and numerous functions for navigation, office and multimedia.

As a permanently integrated feature, the Professional navigation system has many benefits to offer. It links the system with the wheel sensors and the steering angle sensor means that the vehicle can always be precisely localised. This guarantees reliable navigation at all times, even when the GPS signal is weak – such as in a tunnel.

Incorporation in the clearly structured BMW control and display concept makes navigation especially straightforward. At the same time various functions interact intelligently, so that the volume of music, for example, is reduced automatically before a navigation announcement explains the route.

In addition to route directions and maps, the high-resolution colour display with its split-screen function and dimensions of up to 10.2 inches, depending on the model, also has options to show 3D road maps and photo-realistic images of sights on a route. All menus are displayed in virtual, three-dimensional space and calculated in real time. A rapid 1.3-GHz processor with its own 3D graphics chip allows smooth browsing and scrolling. Animations and dynamic transitions turn operating the system into a thrilling experience. Submenus appear as the main menus fade into the background while still remaining visible.

The Professional navigation system offers practical interactive options even when entering the destination. This enables them to provide the best possible guidance, plus drivers also see a map view of the selected destination in split-screen mode. If necessary, they can use a zoom function to alter the screen display and check whether the destination shown really is the one intended. The extended function strip allows the driver to personalise map contents without having to leave the map view. Every alteration is displayed immediately and can be conveniently changed as required.

The High-Guiding Function is especially helpful when navigating in urban areas or where the road layout is unclear. Depending on the equipment package, the navigation information is shown clearly in either the multifunctional instrument display, the central Control Display or the BMW Head-Up Display. Lane Guiding supplies additional details so that you choose the right lane in time. The 3D city model view option makes finding your way in urban areas easier by supplying realistic images of roads and buildings. The Navigation system additionally provides the foundation for BMW ConnectedDrive. In conjunction with the mobile phone preparation with Bluetooth interface, your BMW can even become a mobile office when required. All contents can be shown on the Control Display or read out over the loudspeakers by using the text-to-speech function.

The iDrive Touch Controller is used to operate the navigation system. Its touch-sensitive Multitouch surface can be used to not only enter characters with your fingers, but also to navigate and zoom in on maps or on the Internet. Thanks to the Voice Control system, BMW owners can also control navigation functions (e.g. entering the destination) with speech commands so that their hands can always remain on the wheel. This therefore allows BMW drivers to enter the address of a destination by reciting the town, street and number in one single sentence.

*The following BMW models come standard with the Navigation System Professional: All BMW M models (BMW M2 Coupe, BMW M3 Sedan, BMW M4 Coupe, BMW M4 Convertible, BMW M5 Sedan, BMW M6 range, BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M), BMW 440i Gran Coupe, BMW 440i Coupe, BMW 440i Convertible, BMW 550i, BMW M5 Sedan, BMW 6 Series model range, BMW 7 Series, BMW X5 and BMW X6.

ConnectedDrive Services

The BMW ConnectedDrive Services feature gives the driver access to the world of BMW ConnectedDrive. It also allows BMW owners to use countless services and apps from a range of categories including travel, office and entertainment.

Features such as “My Info” / “Send to Car” or BMW Online applications make sure the driver always remains fully informed. BMW Online Weather and ECO PRO Analyser gives the BMW driver a perfect service for travel and navigation. This service also enables BMW owners to take their office into their BMWs with Bluetooth Office, BMW Online Office and other functions and apps such as Deezer, snippy or Stitcher. ConnectedDrive also allows BMW owners to take their social networks into their car to link up with everything that matters.

BMW owners can also book other optional services and apps from BMW ConnectedDrive on the basis of ConnectedDrive Services such as Concierge Services and Internet.

Real Time Traffic Information (RTTI):

Real-Time Traffic Information (RTTI) keeps the driver constantly supplied with up-to-the-minute traffic information. It transmits precise details on the location and duration of holdup in real time. Data sources include movement profiles from the cellular network and GPS data from various sources. The evaluation is so precise that traffic jams can be accurately localised to the nearest 100 metres. RTTI is therefore able to a driver updated on the current traffic conditions on highways, major roads and country roads as well as numerous inner-city routes and recommend efficient detours.
